  1. Insignificant

Written August 26, 2002 in Moorhead, MN.

Four years out of college I ran into an old friend who's spent the meantime in the military stationed in the middle east. After our conversation I felt like my day-to-day living was slightly less profound than I had once believed.

Lyrics

I drive this car up and down these streets
And I play guitar up and down these songs
This is how I spend my time; this is who I am
This is how I spend my time; this is who I am
But who are you? You can't tell me
What do you do? You can't say
Except you fly in a plane over there
Over there

You're fighting a war that no one can see except on tv
And I wave my flag high in the land of the free
Insignificant me

I say thank you
You smile like you've heard it before
I don't know what to say to you
I can't imagine the things you've seen
But this is how you spend your time; this is who you are
This is how you spend your time; this is who you are
But who am I? I don't know this
And would I die? I can't say
Except I don't have to because of you
Because of you

You're fighting a war that no one can see except on tv
And I wave my flag high in the land of the free
Insignificant me

This is who I am
This is how I spend my time
